ReachStackers Manufacturers look to offer reliable solutions

Manufacturers are banking on the advanced features of their ReachStackers to drive sales and retain brand visibility. P. P. Basistha reports.

Wide scale use of ReachStackers in recent years across India has marked a departure from the rudimentary container handling practices, many of which are highly unsafe, and usually done with the help of cranes at cargo aggregation centers or at gateway ports. ReachStackers, with their standard boom spreaders, are enabling faster and safer loading and unloading of standard containers of cargo, across the intermodal transportation value chain viz. rail, road and shipping, so much so that ReachStacker manufacturers are now looking to make their products deliver even faster uptime, and with greater safety and reliability.

Sanjay Saxena Vice President & Business Head, Sany Heavy Industries India
Avers Mr. Sanjay Saxena Vice President & Business Head, Sany Heavy Industries India, “Sany has got close to 40% market share of ReachStackers in China. Our products are 10% more fuel-efficient, have higher reliability and faster uptime due to their high-quality components from renowned companies such as Cummins/Volvo for the engines, Kessler axles, and Clark transmissions. Our ReachStackers provide better visibility due to their spacious cabins, and reliable safety features like automatic fire suppression systems, various limit switches and sensors to prevent any hazards.”

He adds, “We started to strengthen our focus on ReachStackers' business in 2015 in India. This was following our successful delivery of mobile canes and rubber tired gantry (RTGs) cranes to Jawaharlal Nehru Port. The delivery and successful commissioning has enabled us to leverage our brand positioning as a major port equipment supplier in India, notably in ReachStackers.”

Sany India has supplied close to 20 ReachStackers in India and another 20 units to Bangladesh and Maldives. The products are supported by its fifty service engineers and product experts based at its Pune head quarters.

TIL Limited has an exclusive partnership with Hyster-Yale Group, Inc. – a global leader in Big Forklift Trucks and warehousing solutions – for a comprehensive range of High Capacity Forklift Trucks, Empty & Laden Container Handlers and ReachStackers to customers in India, Nepal and Bhutan. TIL manufactures RS 45-27 CH and RS 45-31 ReachStackers at the Company’s Kharagpur plant in West Bengal.

Anil Bhatia, Vice President Sales & Marketing TIL Limited
“The Hyster-TIL range of ReachStackers by virtue of their excellent maneuverability, handling speed and stacking capabilities, are able to optimize space utilization in container terminals. Product reliability, which is a prime requirement for safe and fast handling of containers, is enabled by European build fuel-efficient Cummins QSM 11, industrial, six cylinder, 10.8 liter inline turbo charged diesel engines. The cooling on demand and load sensing hydraulics only use power when needed. Wide, heavy-duty Kessler drive axles with reinforced spindles provide excellent sideways stability and long-term durability,” says Mr. Anil Bhatia, Vice President Sales & Marketing TIL Limited.

TIL’s telescopic container spreader for handling 20 and 40 feet standard, ISO containers feature a widely spaced boom head to provide strong support to the spreader. The free non-powered sideways articulation of +/-2.5 degrees facilitates easy handling of containers on/off sloping trailers. A prime feature of the Hyster -TIL ReachStacker is its twist locks that turn automatically to locked position while handling containers. The Vista cab provides optimum visibility with its large windows fitted with tempered safety glass and rearward sloping counterweight. The Hyster- TIL ReachStackers have 60% localized components.

Mr. Anil Bhatia further adds, We also manufacture these ReachStackers for sale by Hyster-Yale in AP markets in Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia and have secured repeat orders for customers in these locations.Since we started production of the units in 2008, we have sold over 200 machines in the domestic market. We have been able to retain our brand visibility as we strive to offer customers total lower cost of ownership. Our service engineers present in strategic locations pan India ensure product availability through timely replacement of parts available in our warehouses in Kolkata, Chennai, and Delhi.
