Everest Engineering Safety is Key
Why and when did Everest Engineering Equipment start developing an Anti-Collision System for Indian jobsites?
We launched our Tower Crane Anti-Collision device in 2012 after making many modifications as per India's jobsite requirements. There were many problems because of frequent power failures at jobsites. The cranes, not being detected by anti-collision systems, would collide with each other due to free rotation in the wind. By using the anti-collision device, these problems are now eliminated, and currently, more than 260 Tower cranes are working in complete safety across India. The anti-collision device has proved to be a very reliable system, which is being used all over India. Their prices too have come down by 20% because of the high volume of sales.
What technology drives the Anti-Collison device?
With construction equipment like Tower cranes becoming more advanced and jobsites becoming more complex, we have now developed a more modern system, which has additional features such as the Safe Load Indicator (SLI) built into the Anti-Collision device. With this, the customer does not have to buy a separate SLI.
There is a simple microprocessor technology used in the Anti-Collision system. About 30 tower cranes can be controlled at a time with our powerful ACD software and a ground monitoring system. The microprocessor-based Anti-Collision system software does not get corrupted due to frequent power failures or frequent on/off. It consumes about 3-4 secs to power up and start working from its current position.
For cranes in areas that have frequent power failures, we supply a UPS power back-up that takes care of the Anti-Collision system for one hour. Also, our Anti-Collision system has a special effect of stopping entry into the tower crane area whose power is off. This is because it senses the other tower cranes continuously and stops entering any area where the power is off, or the anti-collision system is on off mode. Since the tower crane may rotate in the wind in case of a power failure, this feature in our Anti-Collision device ensures additional safety during power failure.
How has awareness increased for Anti-Collison devices in the Tower crane industry?
Our Anti-Collision devices are designed to work with any make and model of tower cranes including the Top kit, Flat top, or Luffing type, and any tower crane that can reach a height of up to 1 km, or even more, as we can meet all requirements.
Having made all the modifications, we have supplied 12 of our Anti-Collision systems to sites in Delhi in 2014, and after seeing their performance, sales have increased significantly. We have sold 250 systems across the country till date, of which, 90 systems are working for one customer alone, in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune. Our corporate customers claim that the systems have been working very well since the last three to four years, and as awareness spreads, we are expecting even more orders this year.
We would like the industry to know that our Anti-Collision systems are designed to work for any Tower crane; even in sites where multiple tower cranes are working simultaneously; and irrespective of the sector they are working in.
What other products/services is Everest Engineering providing to the Indian market?
We started as a service provider to tower cranes and passenger hoists; now, besides supplying Anti-Collision systems, we are also an authorized dealer of GJJ passenger hoists. GJJ is the largest brand in the world with an export of 5000+ units and a presence in every country across the world. There are more than 150 GJJ units working in India - some up to a height of 300 meters. GJJ offer 46 meters as well as 63, 96 even 120 meters/per minute speed of hoists, which is used for 300+ meter high buildings. We are expecting demand for such high-speed hoist in India also and GJJ is the only company to produce such a high-speed hoist.
What does the company's service network comprise of?
We have about 45 factory-trained service engineers working all over India who provide quick service within 24-hours in any part of India. We are the only CRISIL-rated service provider in India for passenger hoists and in the tower crane sector. Most of the spare parts that are used in the passenger hoists and tower cranes are available in the Indian market, and we also keep an adequate quantity of spare parts for warranty replacement. Sometime the spare parts may not be available in the market and in that case, we use them from our stock. So, we always have all the spare parts in stock.
We monitor our service engineer's daily activity and keep an inventory of the spare parts. We also give periodical training to our customers and employees. We are TUV-certified and an ISO 9001:2015 company.
Any new product/technology in the pipeline?
GJJ has introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their hoists. This will monitor verticality, bolt loosening, support loosening, lubrication requirements, any electrical problems and even the number of persons in the cage. If any of this is irregular, the hoist will stop, and the reason will be displayed on the operator display system. This is the most high-end technology so far and was introduced in the passenger hoist by GJJ in 2018.
Because of the frequent breaking of hoist power cables, GJJ has come up with a unique bi-directional Busbar. This is water-proof and dust-proof and eliminates the power cable.
