TH Company enables better washing, higher capacity, and smaller footprint at VRG Blue Metals’ new Sand Washing Plant in Karur.

VRG Blue Metals new Sand Washing Plant - TH Company

VRG Blue Metals is a leading producer of aggregate and manufactured & river sand operating in Southern India. The company, an ancillary unit of VRG&CO, Construction Company, decided to install a second crushing plant in their aggregate production plant near Karur, so they could increase their total production of aggregates. However, this strategic decision made them realize that they could no longer keep washing through conventional means and that a modern washing solution was needed.

Innovative solution from TH Company
Unlike other companies proposals, TH Company, an international industrial company, which opened a subsidiary office in Kolkata, two years ago, came up with an innovative solution for VRG. Why double the capacity of the existing washing means when a unique high-capacity sand washing plant can be implemented? This would not only meet the new production requirements, it would also reduce the footprint, while improving the washing process.

This revolutionary approach based on TH Company´s extensive worldwide experience in implementing turnkey sand washing plants, convinced VRG Blue Metals that TH Company was the right technological partner for dealing with the sand washing challenge.

250-tph Sand Washing Plant for Concrete & Plaster Sand Production
The implemented turnkey sand washing plant has a 250-ton per hour production capacity. The process plant has been designed to wash crushed granite dust and produce two types of sand: Plaster & Manufactured Sand, simultaneously. The plant´s production can be adjusted with a weigh feeder that allows an exact control of product feed.

Unlike other washing plants, the one designed by TH Company includes two separate washing and desliming processes to ensure better washing, increases plaster sand quality, and allows a higher sand recovery. The first process washes and sizes the incoming crusher dust through a classifying screen, and afterwards clay and silt are removed through TH hydro-cyclone technology, which provides unparalleled control of silt cut points, being able to achieve cut points even lower than 75 µm. The final product is dewatered in a dewatering screen before being stockpiled.

Higher water recovery, smaller footprint
Reducing the footprint was a specific request of VRG Blue Metals, so a lamella paste thickener system was proposed by TH Company. Finally, two lamella paste thickener system was implemented to produce uniform, non-segregating underflow slurry with a paste consistency, and ensure a water recovery > 90% that can be recirculated into the process, reducing the water consumption, and thus producing a smaller footprint.

Major benefits
VRG Sand washing plant is a great sample of how a new technological approach can help the industry to step forward. The implementation of a unique high-capacity sand washing plant has allowed VRG to:
  • Ensure production at desired capacity
  • Increase plaster and M-Sand quality
  • Obtain > 90% of water recovery
  • Enlarge recover plaster sand capacity.
TH’s technology sets worldwide benchmarks
TH Company offers rocks, minerals and waste processing solutions for the mining, industrial minerals, aggregates, and environment industries. A key area of its operation is sand washing, employing a wet vibrating screen, hydrocyclone, hydrosizer, and dewatering screen.
