Layher Scaffolding Systems
German company, Layher, produces high-quality scaffolding systems and has a worldwide presence with more than 40 sales subsidiaries. Products are being used in the construction industry, in cement, chemical, and power plants, and at shipyards and in offshore applications.
Layher's advanced product features and applications, along with after-sales services, help customers increase the profitability of their companies. Layher’s Allround modular scaffolding system has the versatility, strength, and reliability for use in construction sites, chemical industries, power plants, aircrafts, shipyards, in theatres, arenas and stadiums.
Application of Layher Allround Scaffold in Cement Industries
Cement silos are either part of the production process in integrated cement plants, or as key storage centers in distribution terminals. As storage silos in the cement industry, they are very important as they allow continuous production, while cement dispatch can be discontinuous.
The largest cement storage silos in the cement industry are built with diameters of (upto) 30 m, while typical silos for storage of 20000 t cement are 4 to 30 m in diameter and 20 to 84 m in height. So, such silos require efficient and trouble-free emptying. Accordingly, the strongest emphasis is on the overall plant reliability and 100% availability.
To achieve high availability, flow problems have to be completely eliminated. The theory of flow in silos well indicates that this can only be achieved with mass-flow. For cement silos, the central cone version has become a predominant design. On one hand, the central cone has a displacement function for the material in the silo. On the other hand, several designs, especially for multi-compartments, become possible. Multi-compartment silos are used for producing special cements from a number of main and secondary cement components.
Layher’s Anchoring Equipment
The construction of scaffolding for maintenance of a silo is a challenging task due to wind pressures. It requires selection of support systems (scaffolding with permanent structure) and to avoid obstructions, brackets or a cable tray around the silo are used. Layher Allround Scaffolding system provides a unique, bolt-less connection technique. Infact, the patented Allround joint has replaced the conventional scaffold technique, especially in construction of scaffold for silos of heights upto 72 meters.
Layher Allround Scaffolding can accommodate all types of high loads and is the ideal system for all kinds of support scaffolding. It is an efficient solution for all challenges, regardless of whether they involve false work at great height, or round inner scaffolding. It needs to be built as a modular scaffolding system for maintenance of silos and high-rise industrial structures. Cement plant situated near sea shores need to take care of the wind force.
Selection of anchoring configuration
Anchoring is essential for the stability of the scaffolding, which must be continually installed as the scaffolding assembly progresses. It is important to provide anchoring on sufficiently strong components, and if necessary, testing the anchoring surface by pull–out tests. A check can be dispensed with if sufficient load-bearing capacity can be assessed on the basis of professional experience, and the service value of the anchoring force does not exceed 1.5 KN, or in case of reinforced concrete.
To connect a Horizontal Ledger with two standard couplers with very wide scaffolding structures, it must be necessary to anchor with the aid of a horizontal ledger. The selection of anchoring configuration depends on the bay width, the load on the scaffolding, live load, wind load, and the structural height of the scaffolding. As the load on the scaffold increases, the anchoring configuration must become denser in order to pass the force safely into the anchoring surface. The denser the anchoring configuration, lower the force on the individual wall ties.

Not only has the shape of the building come to resemble a crystal, but also its polished façade surface. To attach a local scaffold, the technical task was performed by Layher’s Scaffolding and Technical team. It involved section by section adaption of the scaffold to the slope of the building, with various brackets on the inside, and then shifted inwards by one scaffold width. The scaffold was anchored with the help of Layher’s anchoring equipment, and even the increased wind loads could be transferred without putting unnecessary strain on the structure. The construction of scaffolding for maintenance of a silo is a challenging task due to wind pressures.
