Volvo's CareTrack Telematics System
Volvo Construction Equipment has unveiled Volvo CareTrackTM telematics system for remote monitoring of Volvo machines for increased productivity and business value. According to an official statement, India is the first market in Asia to launch the new technology that will help Volvo machine owners to remotely monitor machine location, fuel consumption and time for next service.
Volvo is the first OEM to announce the launch of a full-fledged telematics system in the Indian construction equipment industry for enabling better 'man-machine communication'. The equipment which was unveiled by Mr. Mrityunjaya Singh, Managing Director, Volvo India Private Limited, will provide CareTrackTM equipped as standard on most of its construction machines.
Using GPRS / GSM (mobile network) to send information, the new technology will enable users to track the location of their machines, fuel consumption, speed and hours of operation and the time for next service. The data on machines will be available securely and instantaneously to any remote online connection. Employing fault reporting, activity warnings and remote diagnosis, this technology will help Volvo dealers and machine owners to identify and resolve machine problems quickly and proactively.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mrityunjaya Singh, Managing Director, Volvo India Private Limited said, "Volvo's investment in technological innovations has primarily been driven by customer needs. In recent times, the need for real time information is growing faster than ever before and it was imperative for us to invest in a telematics tool that would help our customers in better site management leading to cost savings and timely completion of projects. CareTrackTM will help in enhancing machine uptime through better control over equipment usage."
The major benefits of Volvo's CareTrackTM telematics system include:
Increased safety: Customers can 'lock in' the machine in a geographic area where it should operate.
Control of service: Customers get service reminders and service history of their machines.
Higher productivity: Get reports on the usage of each machine on parameters like engine load, the use of brakes and differential locks etc.
Greater availability: Of information about the machine's position enables customers to co-ordinate service and refuelling.
Better control when renting: Customers are always aware of the location of their machines and their usage. Invoicing is also greatly simplified.
As a part of this initiative, Volvo will make the CareTrackTM telematics system available as standard on certain models of newly produced machines - hydraulic excavators, wheel loaders, articulated haulers, and motor graders. It will be delivered to customers with a no charge, 3-year CareTrackTM customer activation, which will enable owners to enlist the full range of benefits available with remote monitoring.
