Mobile Concrete Equipment: Schwing Stetter, KYB Conmat, Fiori & Hasber
Concrete transit mixers, boom placers, self-loading mixers and truck mounted concrete batch mix plant are being redesigned and repackaged as re-engineered machines to reduce the costs associated with concrete transportation and placement. They aim to deliver greater precision and efficiency to meet the specific construction requirements of mega projects such as airports, dams, highways, high-rise buildings, bridges, and more. Perceived as powerhouses of concrete transportation, they are being integrated with advanced technology and a robust structure to ensure that the consistency of the concrete mix is maintained throughout the batching and transit process, closely adhering to project specifications.
Manufacturers are enhancing the efficiency of concrete mixing equipment through new drum designs and are collaborating with chassis manufacturers to accommodate more powerful engines so that the machines can cover longer distances to transport concrete, mortar, or ready-mix material from a concrete batching plant to a project site. These powerhouses of concrete mixing and transportation of concrete to project sites are being integrated with more advanced technology and a more robust structure. Manufacturers are also widening their range of mixers to cater to a wider user base.
“In our constant pursuit to bring greater power and efficiency in our transit mixers, we are reworking on their drum design to ensure optimal performance across jobsites. From batch loading to delivery over long distances, our transit mixers are engineered with precision to retain the characteristics of varied concrete mixes.
Our range of concrete transit mixers are equipped with power take-off engines for enhanced performance and efficiency in meeting the rigorous demands of construction projects, while minimizing operational costs and maximizing productivity.
While power take-off transit mixers may entail higher initial costs, at Schwing Stetter we differentiate ourselves by offering key technical attributes that translate into lower operating costs over the equipment's lifespan. This is because our transit mixers leverage the power of advanced technologies, IoT-enabled systems and fuel-efficient engines. These attributes lead to optimal fuel consumption, lesser maintenance requirements, and higher operational efficiency.
Schwing Stetter India offers transit mixers with a range of chassis options, tailored to suit diverse customer preferences and project requirements. Our integrated drum mounting solutions ensure seamless compatibility and efficient operation, providing customers with reliable performance and peace of mind.
Our production lines are geared for delivering a range of variants, and we keep assessing market dynamics and customer requirements to increase production as needed, ensuring timely fulfillment of orders and customer satisfaction. In fact, we are well prepared to expand our business as demand increases as our manufacturing facility in Chennai has the capacity to produce any number of transit mixers to meet burgeoning demand.
In view of emerging demand, we have exciting plans to introduce a newer range of transit mixers with higher and lower capacities cum/hr ratings to cater to diverse infrastructure applications. These forthcoming variants will embody cutting-edge technology and innovative features, for delivering superior performance, efficiency, and reliability.
Schwing Stetter India has been strengthening its services for transit mixers through drum refurbishment and component replacement. The company’s service team ensure that their transit mixers are restored to factory specifications, so that they provide maximum productivity.
Our concrete boom placers, used for all kinds of infra construction and real estate projects, are also providing optimized performance, quicker laying, and lesser maintenance. They have gained prominence, especially post Covid, when there was a shortage of manpower for laying the concrete pipelines connected to the concrete pumps. The self-unfolding feature of the booms, driven by the power of the prime mover, helps in bypassing the need for extra pipe laying workers, thereby curtailing operational costs for concrete placement.
We offer truck-mounted boom placers of 20, 36, 43, and 47 meters with various chassis offerings. Our placers are highly robust and have higher mobility, resulting in faster set up times. Their high stability and ability to slew 360 degrees enables wider span coverage, supported by the outriggers. Further, their rock valve technology reduces fuel consumption and wear and tear.
Schwing Stetter India manufactures 200-400 units of boom placers across all ranges at its Chennai facility. The products cater to both domestic and export markets. To ensure higher availability, the company is setting up ‘drive in service’ centers where the machines can be directly driven in for maintenance and required parts replacements. Till date, we have 12 such centers across India, with the most recent one in Kolkata.
Schwing Stetter’s self-loading concrete mixers are also seeing higher market demand considering their utility in various types of projects, and the fact that they require minimum investment and are easy to set up. Especially in rural areas, it is usually the self-loading concrete mixers (SLCM) that are applied first to make the base foundation before the heavier equipment are placed there. According to industry estimates, the volume of self-loading mixers in India is estimated to range between 4,500 and 5,000 units. They are considered for their low volume, low set-up cost, and low operation cost. The volumes produced by an SLCM does not exceed 14 cubic meters per hour.
Our SLCM come with drums made of wear-resistant steel, as standard. The optimum design of the drum spirals ensures fast dosing and discharge of concrete, plus they are protected against wear at the edges of the spiral and for reducing shear stress. Our loading bucket is designed not only to load the material, but also to accurately weigh it before dosing by using hydraulic pressure transducers. The loading bucket has an in-built gate which is operated by the joystick in the operator cabin. Since we use only proportional hydraulics, the operator gets good control - often with an accuracy of a few centimetres.”
Schwing Stetter SLCMs come with 4- and 2-wheel drive. Crab modes are offered as standard to keep their turning radius low and also to help the machines work in confined spaces. The SLCMs are presently being sold through Schwing Stetter’s own distribution channels and are supported by the company’s field service engineers across its 26+ branches. Since the launch of our Global Manufacturing Hub, we have enhanced our manufacturing capacity to meet the growing demand for SLCMs.
KYB Conmat is looking to bring greater efficiencies in its 6 cum/hr-7-8 cum/hr transit mixers and also reducing their operating and maintenance costs. “We are offering options of both power take-off and slave engines in our transit mixers. Our focus is on fuel efficient engines for which we are engaging with both chassis and engine manufacturers like Kirloskar.
Our transit mixers are equipped with a specialized spiral blade drum design that helps retain the character of the concrete (of both mixed design and low slump concrete), and to have the right level of discharge, even when travelling long distances. We are providing the required technical support and solutions to ensure complete compatibility, efficient operations, and reliable concrete discharge through our transit mixers.
The company has recently initiated production of self-loading concrete mixers (SLCM) with capacities ranging from 2.5 cubic meters per hour to 4.8 cubic meters per hour, officially launched at Excon 2023. "Our new BSIV, ARAI approved SLCM boasts high productivity, due to its unique spiral-based drum design equipped with specially designed blades ensuring superior homogeneity during mixing and faster discharge of concrete." Other competitive design features include a powered shovel gate to prevent spillage during charging, a loading arms mechanism for increased pushing force, simplified operations during loading, and a low center of gravity. Additionally, it features an electronic weight batching system and four-wheel steering with three different modes. Its short turning radius renders the machine suitable for operation in confined spaces.
"To enhance the availability of our transit mixers and self-loading mixers, our ongoing product support strategy prioritizes consistently reducing response times and establishing closer proximity to our customers. Consequently, we are reinforcing our network of 150 service locations to align with this strategy.”

With concrete requirements in construction getting further classified, manufacturers are introducing composite solutions. One of these is the HASBER C-30 India's first Patented Truck Mounted Concrete batch mix and transit machine. It features a 28-ton truck chassis that holds the storage bins for coarse aggregates, cement storage, fly ash, fine aggregates as part of batch mixing of the concrete, and a water tank / Admixture. The chassis houses a twin shaft mixer with a batch capacity of 0.5 cubic meter to perform the mixing, which is operated by Fully Automatic Embedded control panel.
The concrete is mixed insitu and transported by the truckhousing the mixing and transit unit, which discharges the concrete through the discharge gate. HASBER C-30 is driven and run by a separate slave engine. Additional features include an automated embedded operating system with USB and a batch printing attachment plus GPS and IOT Enabled.
Our C-30 HASBER truck-mounted mobile concrete plant is a composite machine designed for projects on mountains and in remote locations. Besides these, the machine can be used in the construction of residential and commercial buildings, docks and harbors, airport runways, canals and dams, roads, bridges, and flyovers, metro and rail projects.
The C-30 is a highly reliable machine. Fresh concrete taken out from a ready-mix plant should be transported by transit mixer and placed at site, within two hours as per IS 4926 norms. However, this may not always be technically feasible due to certain constraints in transportation such as traffic snarls, especially if the mix has to be brought from outside the city limits or has to travel long distances. To avoid setting of the concrete (which may happen due to the time lag), admixtures are added to maintain the fluidity. The film of the admixtures slows down the process of setting of the concrete.
However, setting of the concrete already begins with heat being generated, in turn triggering the process of making the concrete stiff. To avoid this, water is added into the mix in the drum, which enhances the evaporation process with further heat being generated.Due to the high rate of evaporation, cracks begin to appear in the concrete when it is finally laid on the surfaces.
The HASBER C-30, mobile concrete plant with its composite mixing and transit features, can do the mixing onsite, which gives strength and durability to the concrete, reduces cracking, improves workability, and lends a better finish and consistency to the concrete, and, most importantly, it increases construction speed. In this way, the C-30 cuts down the cost of operation as it reduces fuel and maintenance costs, and even reduces environmental pollution.
We have sold 9 units of our patented C-30 truck mounted, mobile concrete plant. For enabling contractors to drive the desired quality of concrete while ensuring higher availability of the machines, our 360 degree monitoring solution tracks over twenty different exceptions in drivers’ behavior, such as over speeding, hard braking, idling, harsh acceleration, etc, and based on this monitoring, we get valuable actionable insights.
HASBER undertakes customized design engineering of the bins and mixers, based on contractors’ needs. It also does the complete mounting and integration of the chassis with the functional mixing and transit unit, along with the slave engine.
