Apurva Mankad, Founder & CEO, WebXpress
Apurva Mankad, Founder & CEO, WebXpress, is confident that given the company’s domain expertise and ground-level experience, the possibilities of growing with data are immense.

How has WebXpress evolved technically since its inception?
I started WebXpress in 2004. It was an idea that had come from my deep passion for the internet economy. I realized that the chaotic and unorganized sector of logistics needed some changes in order to thrive in the business. I implemented the latest technologies to create a Transportation Management solution that combines both the customers’ needs and digital technology.

We launched our first mobile app in 2009, deployed GPS integration in 2011, and adopted Cloud in 2013. With the advent of Cloud, WebXpress was transformed into a SaaS-based solution that covers everything from transportation to e-commerce to express to hyperlocal and full track movement. WebXpress processes over 3.5 million transactions and analyzes around 100mn IoT signals every month.

WebXpress: Tapping Growth Avenues

How has technology changed the dynamics of logistics in India?
The logistics industry in India was pretty laid back; the companies used bare minimum technology and that too just for billing and accounts. However, the onset of e-commerce drastically changed the way the Logistics industry operated. Further, the pandemic forced companies and their customers to put technology on center stage.

According to reports, the logistics and ‘Logtech’ start-ups received over USD 5 bn investments in the last 5-6 years. With the advent of technology, companies had greater reliance on automated monitoring tools such as GPS, IoT, and Control Towers that give them a 30,000 ft view of the entire operations.

Our supply chain visibility platform LogiCloud has helped digitize transactions from over 300 logistics companies. This has helped large manufacturers like Thermo Fisher, Aditya Birla Fashion, and Dr. Lal Pathlabs to get real-time status update on a single platform.

What new offerings is WebXpress lining up?
We are working on several new-age initiatives and are looking forward to work with 5G. Reducing our carbon footprint is also one of our major concerns as it is our responsibility to do our bit for the society and the environment. A logistics specific CRM is also in the works.

We understand that the possibilities of growing with data is immense and with deep domain expertise and ground-level experience, WebXpress can offer next-generation offerings.

How WebXpress as a technological firm is helping transportation to bring in more visibility? Tell us about your various products, solutions and payment models.
Visibility is cornerstone for any efficient supply chain. In a country as large and complex as India, customers are required to work with multiple logistics partners to reach to every consumption point. But getting information from so many partners into one place is a challenge.

WebXpress has created a Control Tower platform that integrates more than 150 logistics partners and provide a single window of visibility to shippers of good. We combine data from APIs, GPS signals, SIM card and Smartphones of users to track each shipment.

We also help customer to measure quality of delivery through a Mobile App platform. Our Logistics Partner Scorecard helps customers to balance their portfolio and get best out of their investment.

In this world of Cloud and SaaS, all products are offered on per transaction basis. Thus, customers need to invest only limited capital and pay as their business grows.

WebXpress has been around since 2005 and thus our customers have assurance of long term service, business continuity at the same time continuous innovation.

What about the security of the clients/subscribers’ database?
Customers are naturally worried about security of the data and privacy of their customers information in today's cloud and SaaS environment. WebXpress deeply understand these concerns. It uses Microsoft Azure Cloud as its backbone. Azure is considered gold standard in data security and privacy. All our solutions are regularly audited by third-party IT Security Experts to find any potential loopholes and plug such security issues.

Are you offering customized solutions?
Every business is striving to innovate and offer new services to customers. WebXpress solutions have to meet these expectations. Logistics is no longer just about physical assets. While roads, ports and warehouses are very much needed for an improved supply chain- these are common for all stakeholders. To achieve an edge in business, logistics companies and supply chain teams have to use Digital Technologies in an innovative manner.

Also, digital is not a one-time activity. Customers need to continuously deploy new ideas and convert every process into a technology and data driven process.
