The logistics industry is experiencing a change towards increased representation of women, as technology and societal changes open up new opportunities for them. Advances in technology have made it possible for women to participate in roles that were previously considered too physically demanding; they can now operate heavy machineries and navigate robots in warehouses. The industry is now adopting a skill-based approach towards recruitment, with many companies setting and implementing goals for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

The de-genderization of professions has played a crucial role in enabling more women to excel and advance in their careers. E-commerce companies have set up fulfillment centers and implemented gender diversity initiatives to increase the number of women in roles such as sorting, packing, loading, and customer support. Additionally, the government has been taking steps to increase women's participation in the workforce by implementing laws and policies aimed at promoting safety and inclusion in the workplace.
Women considering a career in logistics should focus on developing their educational qualifications and skills to match the diverse opportunities in the industry. With the right qualifications and skills, women can excel in this dynamic and growing industry.
Zainab Faridi spoke with some prominent women in the warehousing and logistics industry to gain an insight into the challenges they face, the evolving view of women's roles in the industry, the impact of women in leadership positions, and how companies and government are working towards a more inclusive industry. These ‘sheroes’ are not only making a name for themselves, but also paving the way for greater gender diversity and inclusion in the industry. However, there is still a long way to go, and it will take a concerted effort to support and promote women in leadership positions to fully realize this goal.
