Excon 2007 gears up for Another Milestone Event
Excon is well-established as a leading exhibition for the Indian and sub-continent construction market. Held biannually, it is the industry’s biggest meetings place for anyone who is anyone in the construction industry.
Excon 2007 will be held for the 4th time this November in Bangalore at new but bigger and better venue–Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC). The show boasts of more than 225 exhibitors from 10 countries and exclusives pavilion from China, Germany, South Korea, Italy, and so on, filling over 50,000 sqm of space. The event is being organized by CII and the Indian Earthmoving & Construction Industry Association (IECIA), with companies like Hydrolines, JCB, Kobelco, Puzzolana, Schwing Stetter, Srei, Telcon, Volvo, and Wipro as event sponsors. Such industry events certainly help accelerate the overall techno-economic progress of the country.
Show organizers hope to attract more than 25,000 high profile visitors from sub-continent to the five-day event. Excon comes at a time when India is experiencing tremendous growth in construction industry. The construction equipment market in India is expected to grow +30% in 2007—08 and beyond.

New features of the Dynapac PL 350 T cold planer include an integrated removable ballast weight resulting in a shorter length and improved operator vision at the front end of the planer. Anoptional short conveyor to load milled material into, for example, a wheel loader bucket, is also available.

The Calstone Company's multicolor blend face-mix concrete block paver plant built by Rekers, Spelle. Germany in Tracy, California in 2005 has generated extraordinary interest from paver manufacturers around the world.
Calstone planned to increase its block paving and retaining wall production capacity because of the rapidly growing market for its high quality products. Therefore, it decided to build a new high performance plant incorporating all the latest technology and still to be developed multi-color blending system as well as selecting the best "antiquing" system.
After a long and detailed selection procedure Calstone choose Rekers as main contractor for the new plant. The Rekers proposals had included initial ideas for the color blending system and these together with further ideas from Calstone refined in several "brain - storming" sessions resulted in what is now a jobproven system that far surpasses the initial expectations of those involved, in fact so good that patents have been jointly applied for by Calstone and Rekers.
The 6-color blending system required a detailed design and specification for each stage of the process, from the batching plant to the block machine face-mix feed-box as well as for the computer control system software.
The aggregate in-feed conveyors and storage bins pay particular attention to avoiding contamination, especially for long term storage. A day-bin facility is provided for high-value aggregates and for short runs of specialist aggregates.
A dedicated face-mix weighing system guarantees the accurate batching of the small batches, usually about 150 ltr total material input, that are required to maximise the number of batches per hour, thereby ensuring that only "fresh" concrete is fed to the block machine. This means using vibratory feeders and a weigh belt (Calstone) or traveling weigh hopper.
An Eirich R12 - 250 ltr inclined rotating pan high-shear mixer with a high-speed mixing tool is used to thoroughly mix the face-mix batch in the shortest possible time. The action of the inclined mixer pan "folds" the material to homogeneously mix the material from top to bottom, especially important with a high pigment loading. The high-speed agitator eliminates any cement or pigment "balling" that can cause surface texture problems and this significantly reduces dry-side culling.
Although not essential, a belt feed could also be used, the Rekers overhead bottom-dump skip is the perfect choice to bring the batch of wet concrete to one of the six blending hoppers. The design and execution of the skip ensures a clean dump every time, while a variable speed drive is used to minimise the travel time to less than that of the mixer cycle time.
The minimum capacity individual dosing hoppers with full bottom dosing belts are specially designed and specified for a clean material draw-out with no hang-up. The hopper is internally spray-coated with a hmp lining as is the above skip. Each hopper is individually weighed so that the control system can automatically order and correctly sequence the next (color) batch taking into account the rate of wet concrete draw-out from each hopper.
The different colored wet concrete can be dosed and positioned on the blending conveyor in various ways so that the any degree of "blending" / "striping" / "spotting" of the colors as well as any degree of "repeatability" / "randomness" is possible.
The block machine feed-hopper and feed-box are specially designed for handling the blended wet concrete facemix without further blending before it enters the mould to be compacted. By being able to position the individual (blended) colors in certain positions in the feed-hopper and therefore the feedbox, it is possible to obtain the required blend in the (each) product layers. The feed-hopper is very small, being full width, but only about 200 mm long in the production direction, its walls are rounded and vertical and executed in stainless steel for better material flow. The feedbox capacity has also been minimised to ensure that the wet concrete retention is no more 5 cycles. Its back wall is adjustable for different product heights.
Rekers supplied an integrated control system for the entire plant, including the batching plant and it is complete with two redundant operator control stations, at the block machine and at the packaging line that feature full plant visualization with pull-down screens for more detail, advanced fault-finding and production / maintenance databases. The control system follows individual product layers from the block machine into the curing racks and then to the antiquing and packaging lines, automatically adjusting parameters as necessary.
The visualization software for the blending system is the "key" to the operator being easily able to "design" new blending effects. It also allows the operator to save designs and recall them at will. This may sound simple, but account must be taken of the individual usage rates of the different colors and the batch size / sequencing / order points adjusted accordingly to ensure that the wet concrete delivered to the mould is as fresh as possible for best quality. Note the high ambient temperatures in California and the risk of the wet concrete drying-out prematurely.

One of the latest state-of-the-art Quarry-line products introduced by Sandvik Mining and Construction in India is the Sandvik DQ 240 (previously called Trimmer 240).
The Sandvik DQ 240 is a hydraulic operated, excavator mounted splitting and line drilling unit for use in dimensional stone granite and marble quarries. It drills vertical aligned holes with maximum recommended hole diameter of 38 mm (1 ½„) using Hex 19 or Hex 22 Integral Drill Steels.
For greater efficiency and productivity, the Sandvik DQ 240 is equipped with 2 no. of Hex 1 Hydraulic Top Hammer Rock drills with anti-jamming automatics. The rock drills are mounted on aluminium chain feeds which are attached to a frame giving a line drilling capacity of 3150 mm.
The frame can be rotated 80 degrees vertically and 30 degrees horizontally from the ground pin without moving the excavator boom.
All drilling functions can be executed from a remote control box.

Washing sand in an efficient system is the recognised way to control fluctuations in the feed grade and also ensures consistent adherence to material norms. Various technologies exist ranging from screw classifiers through to modern hydrocyclone based systems such as those offered by CDE, a leading UK manufacturer now based in India. Selection of the correct system is essential to ensure optimal efficiency, particularly in achieving the correct balance of waste removal versus fine particles retention. To this end CDE offers a highly customised approach and are able to cater for a diverse range of capacities and processing requirements; from less than 20tph to over 2,000tph. With experience across many sectors, material types, and at an International level, CDE now offers its expertise directly to the Indian construction industry.
CDE's innovative systems allow fine control of the required separation which not only gives operators much greater control over their products but also opens the industry to a much greater range of potential raw materials. At the top of the list is crushed rock as a natural sand substitute. Minus 6mm crushed rock fines are a typical by-product of the crushing sector and generally have little market value. These fines are now seen as a useful commodity in many markets as in most cases they can be washed to produce sand ideal for concrete production. In many cases the product is actually better than naturally occurring sands which are often too fine and lack body in the plus 300 micron range.

The open pit mine adopts an innovative technique called reverse circulation drilling for exploration. The principal advantage of this drilling is that it
allows for accurate sampling. Miners gauge the presence of gold deposits in the mining area by analyzing the samples drilled out from the earth. In the reverse circulation technique, the flush material is returned to the surface through a central passageway integrated in the drill system.
The reverse drilling rig used for excavating mines is air powered, demanding a high air pressure of 600- 700 psig. During the initial phase Penjom tried air compressors from an MNC competitor, but were not satisfied with the performance. Penjom later partnered with Elgi to explore the possibility and the partnership stuck gold!

Rekers, Calstone Engineering Feat
Calstone planned to increase its block paving and retaining wall production capacity because of the rapidly growing market for its high quality products. Therefore, it decided to build a new high performance plant incorporating all the latest technology and still to be developed multi-color blending system as well as selecting the best "antiquing" system.
After a long and detailed selection procedure Calstone choose Rekers as main contractor for the new plant. The Rekers proposals had included initial ideas for the color blending system and these together with further ideas from Calstone refined in several "brain - storming" sessions resulted in what is now a jobproven system that far surpasses the initial expectations of those involved, in fact so good that patents have been jointly applied for by Calstone and Rekers.
The 6-color blending system required a detailed design and specification for each stage of the process, from the batching plant to the block machine face-mix feed-box as well as for the computer control system software.
The aggregate in-feed conveyors and storage bins pay particular attention to avoiding contamination, especially for long term storage. A day-bin facility is provided for high-value aggregates and for short runs of specialist aggregates.
A dedicated face-mix weighing system guarantees the accurate batching of the small batches, usually about 150 ltr total material input, that are required to maximise the number of batches per hour, thereby ensuring that only "fresh" concrete is fed to the block machine. This means using vibratory feeders and a weigh belt (Calstone) or traveling weigh hopper.
An Eirich R12 - 250 ltr inclined rotating pan high-shear mixer with a high-speed mixing tool is used to thoroughly mix the face-mix batch in the shortest possible time. The action of the inclined mixer pan "folds" the material to homogeneously mix the material from top to bottom, especially important with a high pigment loading. The high-speed agitator eliminates any cement or pigment "balling" that can cause surface texture problems and this significantly reduces dry-side culling.
Although not essential, a belt feed could also be used, the Rekers overhead bottom-dump skip is the perfect choice to bring the batch of wet concrete to one of the six blending hoppers. The design and execution of the skip ensures a clean dump every time, while a variable speed drive is used to minimise the travel time to less than that of the mixer cycle time.
The minimum capacity individual dosing hoppers with full bottom dosing belts are specially designed and specified for a clean material draw-out with no hang-up. The hopper is internally spray-coated with a hmp lining as is the above skip. Each hopper is individually weighed so that the control system can automatically order and correctly sequence the next (color) batch taking into account the rate of wet concrete draw-out from each hopper.
The different colored wet concrete can be dosed and positioned on the blending conveyor in various ways so that the any degree of "blending" / "striping" / "spotting" of the colors as well as any degree of "repeatability" / "randomness" is possible.
The block machine feed-hopper and feed-box are specially designed for handling the blended wet concrete facemix without further blending before it enters the mould to be compacted. By being able to position the individual (blended) colors in certain positions in the feed-hopper and therefore the feedbox, it is possible to obtain the required blend in the (each) product layers. The feed-hopper is very small, being full width, but only about 200 mm long in the production direction, its walls are rounded and vertical and executed in stainless steel for better material flow. The feedbox capacity has also been minimised to ensure that the wet concrete retention is no more 5 cycles. Its back wall is adjustable for different product heights.
Rekers supplied an integrated control system for the entire plant, including the batching plant and it is complete with two redundant operator control stations, at the block machine and at the packaging line that feature full plant visualization with pull-down screens for more detail, advanced fault-finding and production / maintenance databases. The control system follows individual product layers from the block machine into the curing racks and then to the antiquing and packaging lines, automatically adjusting parameters as necessary.
The visualization software for the blending system is the "key" to the operator being easily able to "design" new blending effects. It also allows the operator to save designs and recall them at will. This may sound simple, but account must be taken of the individual usage rates of the different colors and the batch size / sequencing / order points adjusted accordingly to ensure that the wet concrete delivered to the mould is as fresh as possible for best quality. Note the high ambient temperatures in California and the risk of the wet concrete drying-out prematurely.

This introduction in India through KCEI was done with the two categories of 20 Ton & 35 Ton, in April 2007. The idea behind this introduction was to enter into the largest segment by the size category, as well as to penetrate all the applications segments.

Sandvik DQ 240
The Sandvik DQ 240 is a hydraulic operated, excavator mounted splitting and line drilling unit for use in dimensional stone granite and marble quarries. It drills vertical aligned holes with maximum recommended hole diameter of 38 mm (1 ½„) using Hex 19 or Hex 22 Integral Drill Steels.
For greater efficiency and productivity, the Sandvik DQ 240 is equipped with 2 no. of Hex 1 Hydraulic Top Hammer Rock drills with anti-jamming automatics. The rock drills are mounted on aluminium chain feeds which are attached to a frame giving a line drilling capacity of 3150 mm.
The frame can be rotated 80 degrees vertically and 30 degrees horizontally from the ground pin without moving the excavator boom.
All drilling functions can be executed from a remote control box.
The requirements of the Excavator for operating the Sandvik DQ 240 are:

The benefits to customers using the Sandvik DQ 240 (Trimmer 240) include:
- Automation with two drifters working simultaneously leads to very high productivity and meterage drilled per hour as compared to the conventional hand held method. As a result, a customer is able to produce a greater number of dressed granite blocks per day.

Concrete Technology
As far as High frequency vibrators are concerned, Wacker made concrete history long ago with some of its revolutionary inventions and patents, with different lengths and head size suitable for Contractors requirements.
