Demtech: Bigger & Better in 2023
The second edition of Demtech 2023 Conference and Exhibition, held at Bengaluru on the 28th and 29th September 2023, played host to 450 delegates, representation from 10 countries, and 45 exhibitors.
The success of Demtech 23 has once again proved that the Indian demolition industry is in search of avenues to exchange and share information on the best solutions. While the first edition was a pathbreaker, the second cemented the fact that the demolition, recycling and remediation industry is ready for such events.
Chief Guest, K. Subramanian, Executive Vice Chairman - Afcons Infrastructure, inaugurated the event, while Mohan Ramanathan, Founder-Chairman, DA, and Jan Hermanson, Editor, PDI magazine, Sweden, gave the welcome address.
This was followed by lectures and discussions on various topics. Mohan Ramanathan and Kate Bester from Jet Demolition, South Africa), discussed "A Perspective on the Past, Present and Future Status of Demolition and Recycling in India and Worldwide". Anurag Sinha (Ell) spoke on "C&D Waste Management for Businesses, Community and Environment". This was followed by a sponsor presentation by Torsten Ahr of Epiroc Mining India; a project case study by Jigar Cheda and Joe Birkman of Edifice Engineering & Jet Demolition; a lecture on "Engineering Challenges behind Demolition of high rise structures" by Dr. Anil Joseph of Geo Structures, Kochi, and a panel discussion was held on “C&D Waste Recycling: Why Should Demolition Companies Decarbonize?" Participants included Amitabh Kishore (Ell), Torsten Ahr (Epiroc), Gerald Badegruber (Rubblemaster), AmoI Sinha (Terex), Marcel Venting (Demaree), Deepak Raina (Metso), Mohan Ramanathan (JOA) and was moderated by Kate Bester of Jet Demolition.
The IDA Committee Members were introduced through short AVS followed by sponsor presentations by Edifice Engineering and Ashish Markande of (Hilti India); Keynote lecture on "Latest Updates in BIS Codes on Demolition & Recycling" by Arun Kumar (BIS); a project case study by Kannan Paulthurai, of PK Unique Projects and another on "Challenges in Bridge Demolition Jobs" by Shriram Matte of Matte Associates.
Special presentations on "Laser Welding of Diamond Tools" by Arthur Becker (Dr. Fritsch, India) and on "Controlled Demolition with Right Power and Diamonds" by Johnson Periera (Lissmac).
Ramalingam Iyer gave a lecture on "Offshore Structures- Decommissioning, Demolition & Restoration", followed by a sponsor presentation by Anand Singh (Volvo CE). A discussion was held on the “Future of Demolition in India" by panelists Sanjay Phadke (lndustrade), Torsten Ahr (Epiroc), Christophe Jarin (Stanley), Senthil Kumar (Husqvarna), Johnson Periera (LISSMAC) and was moderated by Jan Herrmason (POI) and Akhil Jain (IDA).
A recap of the event was made by Fazrullah Basha (IDA) followed by a Vote of Thanks by Piyush Gandhi (IDA). The new incoming IDA Chairman Sriram Matte was announced while outgoing Chairman and IDA Founder Mohan Ramanathan welcomed and wished the new office bearers of IDA.
Demtech 2023 concluded with the National Anthem. During the event dignitaries and delegates were felicitated with mementos and certificates. The day drew to a close with a live band, dinner and cocktails.
