ConMac 2015 Ready for Debut An Excon Show - Focus on North East

Witnessing government's major thrust to create world-class infrastructure in the border areas of north-eastern states and sensing significant business opportunity therefrom, CII, a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led and industry-managed organization which plays a proactive role in India's development process, has taken an initiative to boost the CE sector in North East regions by providing construction fraternity a platform called 'ConMac' to explore the unexplored North East region which has enormous potential for growth.

ConMac 2015, a three-day Excon Show is focused on construction equipment and construction technology and is scheduled to take place from 27th February 2015 to 1st March 2015 at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, in Guwahati. Though it is a first edition of the show for the North East region but so far over 120 exhibitors who are big shots of the industry such as JCB, Caterpillar, Wirtgen, BEML, Ammann Apollo, JLG, Kobelco, L&T, Linhoff, Proman, Puzzolana, Schwing Stetter, Terex, Balkrishna Industries, Apollo Tyres, Case New Holland, Universal, etc. have already confirmed their participation. It is expected that the exhibition will witness over 5000 trade visitors over 2,00,000 sq feet of exhibition display area. Moreover, Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers' Association (ICEMA) will also concurrently organize a conference on Infrastructure for the development of the region.

Apart from the entire range of Backhoe Loaders, Tracked Excavators, Wheeled Loaders and Compaction equipment, we will display the recently introduced the India made Skid Steer Loader (SSL) and Loadall.

Indian built SSL is also known as the Robot. It is regarded as the safest SSL in the world. Given its compact size, this machine is most useful in solid waste management and general construction in restricted areas.

Considering Government's thrust on Infrastructure development of North-eastern region, what is your overview on the growth of CE market in that region in general and JCB's biz in particular?
In the past decade, Government has taken multiple initiatives to facilitate assimilation of the North East into the economic mainstream of the country. Recently, the Union ministry of road transport and highways has set up National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited for the NE with head office at Guwahati. Given the Government's focus on the North East region, the Construction Equipment industry expects the coming months to be demand driven however, that primarily depends on how soon the projects are implemented. Execution is the key and once the onground movement starts, we will see an increase in the demand of Construction Equipment.

Also we expect reduction of taxes on the machines used for infrastructure. Focus on infrastructure construction will bring more liquidity in market. Promotion of mechanization in construction sector will bring cost effectiveness in project. Exemptions of skill development taxes and the benefit of tax should be passed on to the manufacturers who are involved in skill development."
