Private metro link worth Rs. 900cr on cards

The Union Government is all set to give its approval to the private metro link in Gurgaon which will in turn pave the way for extending the metro line to Manesar. The proposed link would serve as a feeder to the main Delhi metro line, Union Urban Development Minister, Jaipal Reddy said.

Delivering his speech at the inauguration of the trial run on the Delhi Metro line to Gurgaon, he said that metro is country’s future mode of commuting and the government is considering a formal sanction of the private metro lines in Gurgaon. It will integrate with Delhi metro at Sikandarpur metro station through a foot-over bridge. Initially the private metro line will be five km long and will have six halts. The SPV is also working on a system of integrated ticketing between the two modes of seamless connectivity and the frequency will be synchronized with the Delhi Metro system to ensure that passengers don’t have to wait for long duration.

Driving home the importance of the private link in and around Gurgaon, DMRC Managing Director, E Sreedharan stated that the much awaited link in Gurgaon must be taken up at the earliest as this will act as an effective feeder to Delhi Metro. Even as Letter of Award was granted to consortium of IL&FS and DLF metro in July last year and foundation stone was also laid but the construction has not yet started as the approval of the urban development ministry is awaited. In this connection a SPV named as Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon, has also been formed to build and operate the system on the PPP model. The moment it gets central approval, the project will take about 30 months to become fully operational, he added.
