In its unfailing quest to reduce traffic congestion in Srinagar city,the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, recently held a high level meeting of empowered officials to discuss the Preliminary Project Report (PPR) of Srinagar Metro Train (Mass Rapid Transport Systems) project for the City, said sources claiming that the task of preparing of DPR has been entrusted to M/S Rites Limited for the project entailing an investment of Rs. 15,881cr. The members attending the meet were unanimous on the fact that the metro rail is the most efficient public transport in terms of energy consumption which runs 15 meters below the ground or 15 meters higher the ground at a speed of 34 kilometers per hour with 20 seconds stoppage at each station. A detailed survey will be conducted from April 1, 2017and RITES will submit the complete draft DPR by September 2017, to the State Government to launch the project after getting mandatory clearances from the concerned authorities. In the DPR, there are three corridors and in the first one, the metro service will start from HMT Junction to Panthachowk Bus Stand via Qamarwari, Batamaloo, Lal Chowk, Sonawar and Badamibagh. While the second corridor will be from Osmanabad (Pandach) to Srinagar Airport via Soura, Alamgiri Bazar, Jamia Masjid, Khanyar, Lal Chowk, Jawahar Nagar, Rambagh, and Hyderpora. From HMT to Patha Chowk via State Motor Garages Bemina, Gulberg Colony and Hyderpora is the third corridor of the metro train and all corridors command a total length of 58 Kms, said sources.
