Integral coach factory gets Rs. 250cr facelift

In an attempt to give a completely new look and also to expand its current coach manufacturing capacity, the government has sanctioned a whopping sum worth Rs. 250cr for the Chennai-based rail Coach Factory. The factory will get technologically upgraded coaches of stainless steel shells and high speed bogies and its annual production capacity will go up by 200 coaches, General Manager Abhay K Khanna said.
He added claiming that the factory has produced 44,190 coaches and 46,111 shells since its inception in the early fifties and is currently commanding 43 per cent of the total coaching stock running on the Indian rail tracks. Prior to this, last year ICF has rolled out 1,503 coaches, its highest production so far. The facility has already secured sanctions for the upgraded coaches of stainless steel shells and high speed bogies and is all set push its capacity to 1,700 coaches during the current financial year.
