Kerala gets Rs. 1L-cr high speed rail corridor

Boosting urban infrastructure in the downstream south the Union Government in a recent decision has cleared a high speed rail corridor project for Kerala connecting the stretch from Kasargode in the north to the state capital in south. In this connection the state government has been directed to prepare a detailed project report of the scheme and submit the same to the central government as quickly as possible, Chief Secretary for Kewrala, T Balakrishnan said.
He added that the high speed corridor with a length of 580km will reduce end to end running time up to two to three hours and is expected to cost to the tune of Rs. 1L-cr. The proposed project is likely to be a public private partnership venture with technical and financial collaboration of the Indian Railways, Delhi Metro and central and state governments. The state Chief Minister prior to this had approached PMO to help the state to set up the mega project and a meeting among Principal Secretary to PM, Pulok Chatterjee and Chief Secretary of Kerala, who is also the managing director for Infrastructure, took the final call in this connection.
