Tamil Nadu targets Rs. 6,654.03cr for urban infra
Injecting a completely new look to its urban infrastructure, the Tamil Nadu Government has announced a Rs 6,654.03cr integrated urban development mission covering major cities and towns across the state. The targeted investment will be carried out by the city corporations and municipalities to upgrade road transport, drainage, sewerage, solid waste management and parking facilities in all the cities across the state. In the process the Government will spend Rs 5,890.12cr to provide these facilities in major cities and towns and Rs 763.91cr would be provided to towns’ panchayats.

According to an official spokesperson, the state government has sanctioned Rs 757.28cr including Rs 506.48cr for cities and large towns to give a fresh facelift to the urban and suburban areas and has also invested funds to the tune of Rs 250.80cr on building facilities for panchayats in and around the cities. Boosting drinking water supply to Chennai and fully utilize the 530-million-litres a day capacity of treated water available from the Chembarambakkam water treatment facility, an additional two-metre diameter pipeline will be laid over a 6.5-km up to the Poonamallee bypass junction from Chembarambakkam. The Government has earmarked Rs 40cr for the project, he claimed.
