R-Infra eyes Rs. 24,000cr airport projects

After successfully securing contracts for building five non-metro airports in Maharashtra, the Reliance Infrastructure is all set to bid for the upcoming new international airports in areas including Navi Mumbai, Pune, Noida and Goa.  In this connection the company has launched initiatives to tie up with international airport developers for bidding for these new airport projects and has also earmarked Rs. 24,000 crore for the purpose, said Business Head, Reliance Airport Developers Private Limited, Vidya Basarkod.

Elaborating on the subject, she added that currently plans are afoot to tie up with ASA of Mexico, which designs, builds and operates airport terminals, and will jointly bid for the upcoming infrastructure projects in the Indian aviation sector.  The company has embarked on the plan because the selection criteria for bidders for greenfield international projects are a bit tougher hence a global tie ups are must and is inclined towards US and European partners to muster technical know-how for such biddings, said an industry insider.

The company, which is currently developing airports at Nanded, Yavatmal, Baramati, Latur and Osmanabad in Maharashtra at an investment of Rs. 500 crore, had made abortive bids to bag the modernization of Delhi and Mumbai airports.  It is also planning to rope in private equity investors for raising funds for these projects.  Apart from this, it  is also bidding for other non metro airports coming up in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and other parts of the country. For bidding non metro airports it is currently getting consultancy guidelines from the New York based consultant Louis Berger Group and Knight Frank, the Business Head added.
