Govt clears solar projects worth 1000mw

To give further push to solar power generation, the Union Government in a recent decision has cleared grid connected solar power projects with a generation capacity of 1000mw, New and Renewably Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah said.

Dwelling further on the subject, he said that the government has targeted 1000 mw of solar power by 2013 of which 500 mw would be solar PV and 500 mw through solar thermal technology.  In totality the government has targeted 20,000mw of solar power generation by 2020 through the Solar Mission and the total potential of renewable energy output in the country is estimated at 85000 mw, he claimed.
