HCC Infra forays into aviation sector
HCC Infrastructure, an arm of the Hindustan Construction Company Limited in a recent move has decided to enter into building and managing the operations of airports in smaller cities across the country, President and Chief Operating Officer, Vinayak Deshpande said.

He said adding that the company is currently engaged in creating and managing assets in segments like roads, power and has also built the landmark Bandra-Worli Sealink project in Mumbai. Many smaller cities will build greenfield new airports and the company is eager to tap the opportunities and it could take up building the Goa airport as its first project in the aviation sector.

The company with an annual investment outlay of Rs. 4,000cr for investment across sectors, has not yet allocated funds for the proposed venture. It has acquired a controlling stake in Karl Steiner AG, a Swiss company with expertise in constructing world-class green buildings. It has, among others, the experience of building Terminal-3 of the Geneva airport. The HCC will exploit Steiner experience in securing building contracts of airports in foreign countries. But prior to that it is keen to try its hand and gain some expertise by operating airports in the domestic aviation sector, he claimed.
